Restricting Time Bookings to Work Packages

Time tracking for your projects – how to find the right structure

For projects where your clients receive a proof of activities, accurate time tracking is particularly important. This can only work if the project team records times in the right place and describes the activity correctly.

With projectfacts, large, complex and long-term projects can be structured so that you always keep track of everything. You can use phases, sub-projects and work packages for this purpose.

By default, times can also be booked to all components of the project.

Proofs of activities are often particularly good when time tracking is carried out at the level of work packages. If time is recorded against sub-projects, you are dependent on the employee’s description and also have to reassign the times to the work packages.

How to restrict time tracking to work packages

With projectfacts you can determine which components of the project your project team can book to. To do this, go to configuration mode and navigate to the “Projects” menu item and go to the settings there. You can choose how time tracking may be carried out on your projects and have the following options:

Work packages disabled

Work packages are not used; only projects and sub-projects are worked with.

Work packages enabled and projects not bookable by default

No times can be recorded against projects and sub-projects. Time booking takes place only on work packages.

Work packages enabled and projects bookable by default

You can book times to both projects and work packages.

Individual configuration

If you do not allow booking to sub-projects by default, you can still make an exception in individual cases. Use the individual configuration of the respective sub-projects for this and set whether a time may be recorded or not. To do this, go to the master data of the work package or sub-project and use the “Bookable (time)” switch under Configuration.
