Requirements Specification

Definition

A requirements specification is also referred to as a requirements catalogue. It is a list of all requirements that a technical product should fulfill. This can be a machine or software, but also vehicles or buildings.

Tasks of a Requirements Specification

In a requirements specification, all requirements that a client demands from a contractor are defined in precise detail. This allows the contractor to develop an appropriate solution.

The counterpart to the requirements specification is the functional specification, which the contractor presents to the client. It is a detailed elaboration of the requirements for deliverables and services defined in the requirements specification.
