Definition
Resource planning in a project is also known by the term “deployment planning”. As the name already suggests, resource planning ensures that all necessary resources are always available throughout the duration of a project. These include, for example, workplaces, machines, materials, employees and working time.
Short-term or long-term resource planning?
There are two perspectives for planning these: The short-term and the long-term perspective.
- With the short-term perspective, only the resources required for the project are identified.
- With the long-term perspective, the entire product lifecycle is considered and changes are addressed.
Through good resource planning, bottlenecks can be avoided by intervening at an early stage and employees can be specifically scheduled in advance.
