What are Boards? Definition and meaning
In project management, agile boards serve as an overview of all tasks that need to be worked through to reach the project goal. They are a kind of task board or pinboard. The best-known variants in project management are Scrum and Kanban boards.
With the help of boards, you can divide tasks into different categories, such as “to do”, “in progress” and “done”. This gives you a direct overview of the current project status at all times.
Boards can be run in the classic way with a physical board and sticky notes, or you can try a smart online tool where you move individual items directly by drag and drop and thereby change their status.

In everyday English, “board” can also mean a governing body such as the board of directors or supervisory board, as well as a plank or a surfboard. In project management and in this software, boards refers to the visual task board on which tasks travel through columns from “to do” to “done”.
