App is short for the English term “Application”. It is an application software that can be differentiated as follows:
Types of Apps
Mobile Apps
Mobile apps are found on smartphones or tablets. They can generally be installed via so-called “app stores”. They are also referred to as native apps, since an application must be installed in the operating system.
Desktop Apps
Desktop apps can be installed on PCs and laptops. They represent simplified functions of otherwise complex programs.
Web Apps
Functional websites can also be installed as web apps on smartphones, tablets or PCs. They can then be accessed directly, without going through a browser or other apps. In contrast to native apps, web apps do not need to be installed on the device.
